Garden Gnomes
Do you want to add some whimsy and enchantment to your yard? How about a Garden Gnome? And with Travelocity’s Gnome out there traveling the world as their mascot, the garden gnome is really making a comeback in popularity. Those who overlooked them before are taking a second look and adding these cute little characters to their landscape ideas.
Garden Gnomes or lawn gnomes as they are sometimes referred to have been around since the 19th Century. Phillipp Griebel in Germany was the first one to design them out of clay, then terra cotta. And many of the “old world” Gnomes you still see today are designed after Griebel’s original look. Over the years we have Americanized them making them more fully bodied and resembling more of Santa then the slimmer ones that Griebel first designed.
There is a Gnome to please any personality. What type of personality do you have? Are you fun, mischievous, a hard worker, love to lay back and relax, prankster, love the enchantment and adventure of centuries ago, love sports – NCAA, NFL or MLB? There are hundreds of gnomes to choose from! You can display them in your yard, your garden, your walkway and even put them in your house. If you prefer to put them in your home, these adorable little creatures would then be called “house gnomes” instead of lawn or garden gnomes! Remember, it is good luck to place your gnome in your garden or your home.
The myth behind gnomes is that they watch over your yard, your garden, your barn, your pets and even you! They come alive and work during the night time and become statuesque during the daytime. They are fun, loving, adventurous, love a good prank, and most of all love to work in the garden. They are a symbol of goodwill, hope and of course luck.
